The 8 Days Uganda Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari involves trekking gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda. Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park contains 400 out of the 880 mountain gorilla populations that are known to be thriving in the world. The remaining 480 thrive with in the Virunga massif of which Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is among.   • Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park and visit the Musaze Caves

    The guide will pick you from your place of stay or upon arrival at the airport to head for 116km journey over 3 hours’ drive to Volcanoes National Park. You will be mesmerized by the scenic views of the country side and then you will arrive in Ruhengeri – region where Volcanoes National Park is located. Upon arrival, you will visit the ancient caves of Musaze which are cathedral like natural features noted to have been used as hiding place for the Rwandan royals during the times of war and storage for supplies and food. Retire for relaxation and overnight.

    Day 2: Undertake mountain gorilla trekking and relax at the lodge

    After a thrilling breakfast from your respective lodge, you will gather at the Volcanoes Park Headquarters in Kinigi at 8am for briefing and the eventual start of the gorilla tracking encounter. The park rangers will give you the situation that surrounds gorilla trekking and the respective dos and don’ts for the very activity while enjoying a thrilling cup of Rwandan coffee and being entertained by the famous Intore dance demonstrating the traditional Rwandan society. Embark on the actual gorilla tracking hiking through the jungle of Volcanoes following the respective assigned gorilla family and in company of those the eight team mates that have been put together with you track a given gorilla group. The duration for the gorilla tracking tends to fall between 2 – 8 hours and the encounter is more that the ordinary. The hike through the jungle passing by amazing flora and fauna, the impressive and magical scenic landscapes of the Virungas would definitely leave you in a state of bewilderment.  The eventually one hour direct encounter with mountain gorillas seeing direct in their frightening eyes enjoying the beauty of their fur and the being entertained by the playful young ones settles your thoughts of the worthiness of the gorilla permit price. Return from this encounter and transfer to your lodge for an afternoon relaxation and reciting of the memories.

    Day 3: Do an adventure hike to Bisoke volcano and transfer to Uganda

    After a thrilling breakfast at your place of stay, you embark on another adventure encounter hiking the Bisoke Volcano. The Mount Bisoke is part of the greater Virunga massif that has eight (8) volcanic mountains. The Mountain towers up to 3,711m above sea level and has two impressive cones that were formed as a result of eruption in the year 1957. Bisoke also has a crater lake named Lake Ngezi which is perched at 11km distance from the summit. The Mount Bisoke hike takes 4 hours from the departure point to reach the summit and the other 3 hours would be used for the descend thus making the Bisoke hiking activity 7 hours round trip. During the hike, you are exposed to impressive mountain flora, birds and other forest animals that may encounter along pour way not forgetting the magical sights of the Virunga Volcanoes. Retreat from the activity which tends to last 2 – 8 hours to the starting point after your picnic lunch and then transfer to Uganda and Mgahinga Gorilla national Park in particular for relaxation and overnight.

    Day 4: Undertake the Batwa heritage trail in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

    After breakfast, gather at the Ntebeko Visitor Center in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park to embark on the Batwa heritage exploration. You hike the verdant forest that thrives on the Volcanic soils of the three mountains of Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo filled with lush flora and amazing bird species including the Albertine endemics while under the guidance of the Batwa guide themselves as they demonstrate their heritage and how a cross section of the plants encountered was of a particular use to them. They show you medicine plants, edible roots, plants and fruits, wild honey collection methods before approaching the Garama Cave that stretch to 342m long and 14m deep provided a safe refigium for the Batwa in case of any danger. It was also used as a center for their activities. You will listen to the tales of these people and their rich fading history. Retreat from the activity and embark on the transfer to Lake Bunyonyi through the fascinating scenery of Kisoro – Kabale road arriving in the afternoon for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

    Day 5: Do a sun rise boat cruise exploring the 29 Islands of Lake Bunyonyi, relax at the lodge and then transfer in the afternoon to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park  

    After breakfast, embark on the boat cruise on the lake of a thousand islands amidst the rolling hills of Kigezi. The boat will enable you explore the major islands and the history behind them. The boat can take 5 hours before returning to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will embark on the drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via the fascinating views if the farmed Kigezi Highlands arriving in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

    Day 6: Do Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi – Uganda and relax at the lodge

    Gather at the respective park headquarter in the morning after an early heavy breakfast for briefing about the gorilla trekking encounter by the park rangers at 8am. After briefing, you will head to the forest for the thrilling gorilla trekking adventure. The hike across the varied landscapes of Bwindi marked with deep valleys, steep hills and dense vegetation cover is very rewarding. The moment you come across the critically endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is one those must list moments that you can ever encounter in the life time. The gorilla trek lasts between 2 – 8 hours and after the one full hour of direct encounter with them; you will return the starting point and transfer to the lodge for an afternoon relaxation, dinner and overnight

    Day 7: Transfer to Kigali

    After a relaxed breakfast, embark on the transfer back to Kigali City. You drive at your own pace exploring the magical sights of Kigezi Highlands and the Virunga massif not forgetting the rolling hills of Rwanda that have earned her a dub as the land of a thousand hills. Arrive in Kigali to check in at your hotel and relax.

    Day 8: Undertake Kigali city tour. Visit the Gisozi genocide memorial, the Presidential palace, Nyamata genocide memorial and the Kigali Markets

    After breakfast, embark on the Kigali City tour. The tour will take you to the Gisozi genocide memorial to pay a visit to the counts of Rwandese who lost their dear lives during the bloody genocide that befell Rwanda in the year 1994. The number of skulls line in the building and the respective writings gives you a fresh picture of what exactly transpired during that period. You will continue to visit the Presidential Palace Museum which was a home to the former President of Rwanda Juvenal Habyarimana at the time of genocide. He lost his life in a plane clash and the remains of FLACON 40 presidential jet also lie in the compound. The extension to Nyamata genocide memorial gives you an extended picture of the effects of genocide on the people of Rwanda. Explore the Kigali Markets including craft centers where you can do simple shopping and then retire to mark the end of your safari.
