Historic Silverback Gorilla Reappears

Rwanda gorilla safaris and tours have been energized and boosted after the reappearance of silverback, Cantsbee.

Cantsbee is a silverback gorilla who was the leader of Pablo group of gorillas that resides in the Virungas. The Pablo group is the second largest group of mountain gorillas in the Virunga Mountains of Rwanda and the largest monitored by the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.

After several searches since his disappearance, it was astonishment to the eyes of the daily monitoring team and trackers that noticed an extra silverback on 4th Jan.

Since no closer look could be obtained that day, the team set out on 5th Jan and confirmed that the silverback was indeed Cantsbee.

It is good to note that Cantsbee was reported missing on Monday 10th October after a daily monitoring could have no sight with him.

With the Virungas as a perfect destination for Rwanda gorilla safaris and tours, experts reported that silverback might have passed on.

Cantsbee is about 38 yrs of age which is beyond the average life expectancy age of 35 for a gorilla.

Gorillas are can however live up to 40 years of age.

With reaction to Cantsbee disappearance, his group had embarked on sub grouping and new leadership was assumed by his son,Gicurasi.

Cantsbee was named by Dian Fossey the late American zoologist and primatologist because she thought his mother was a male and so when she gave birth she said “it can’t be”.

“It can’t be” later came to “Cantsbee” that was and is still the name of the silverback gorilla. Many questions however now arise about his whereabouts in the past few months and if he has returned to stay.

If he is here to stay he has to deal with the current dominance of silverback Gicurasi.
With even over fifty years of study, no science pattern can describe Cantsbee return so gorillas too can present surprises and so can Rwanda gorilla safaris and tours to visit the Pablo group and other group in the Virunga highlands of Rwanda.
