Regional Tourism Portal Launched

It’s finally here. As the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo came to a close on Sunday 19th February 2017, the icing on the cake came with launch of the much awaited Destination East Africa portal.

The portal was launched in the capital of Uganda; Kampala at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.  The portal is an initiative of the East Africa Tourism Platform an apex body of the five member community comprising of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and our very own Rwanda.

The online platform seeks to generate faster and easier travel procedures in the region. With the current integration taking place, citizens from Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda can travel by use of their national IDS and duly registered expatriates by use of interstate pass hence making it visa free for both groups.

The use of internet globally is raising and the body seeks to use this to their advantage. The portal will also be a promotional and advertising tool for various attractions, destinations and its rich culture.

The platform is user friendly and interactive featuring major tourist attractions like the Akagera National Park and Volcanoes National Park. The iconic Kigali is also featured in the top destinations of a Rwanda safari while in East Africa.

The portal available via www.visiteastafrica.org and hope to reach out to over 2000 tour operators and service providers as well as the thousands of end users.

It is a collective effort to raise awareness of tourism as sector in the respective states and East Africa at large. It is also to help spread the gospel of tourism with single tourist visa, interstate passes and national ids for citizens.

The Rwanda team at the expo enjoyed a wonderful time with their stalls that were very busy backed by a team of cultural dancers.

Many people were excited about being able to undertake a Rwanda gorilla safari as is in Uganda.  Mountain gorillas are the top attraction in the country.

Gorillas are blessed to be found in only three states and many tourists what to take a gorilla trekking to Rwanda.

It is worthy to note that the states have committed to joint promotional activities to boost regional and local tourism.

Rwanda is very optimistic to cement its position in the region and world as a top destination to experience remarkable safaris to Africa.
