15 Days Rwanda Uganda Safari Tour – Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport, Welcomed by Your Guide & Check into Your Lodge

On arrival for the start of your 15 days Uganda Rwanda safari tour at the country’s national airport known as Kigali international airport where you meet your driver-guide for a transfer to Kigali town where you spend the night. On arrival, you check-in, have a meal, and spend the night at the booked lodging facility.

Day 2: Visit the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Center & Drive to Akagera National park

After having morning breakfast, your driver-guide will be there to pick you up for a transfer to Kigali town for a short city tour.

You will visit the Gisozi genocide memorial center, markets, and many places around then after having lunch.

From Kigali after the tour, you take a scenic drive to Akagera National park arriving in the evening and spending the night at an accommodation in Akagera National Park.

Day 3: Morning  Game Drive & Afternoon Boat Cruise on Lake Ihema

Early morning after a cup of coffee, you are driven by your driver guide to Akagera park for a wild game drive that brings you up close to the wild animals.

Meeting the early risers, you have a chance to sight antelopes, giraffes, Elephants, Buffaloes, bushbucks among many others.

After about 2-4 hours on the drive, you go for lunch then after take an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you are rewarded with the sight of wildlife like the hippos, crocodiles alongside numerous bird species. After the boat cruise, you are driven back to your lodging facility where you spend the night.

Day 4: Driven to Nyungwe National Park

You have a hefty breakfast then after be driven to Nyungwe National Park on an amazing journey with stops along the way.

You have a stop at the Butare Museum and Nyanza museum as you learn more about the culture and traditions of the people of Rwanda.

From here you continue with the drive to Nyungwe forest national park arriving in the evening for check-in, dinner, and an overnight stay at a booked accommodation facility close to the park.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk in Nyungwe Forest

For a Rwanda wildlife safari, this morning, you are driven to Nyungwe forest for chimpanzee trekking.

Starting at 8:00 am, you spend about 2-4hours trekking the chimpanzees. In the forest, you also come along several bird species (about 300), several flora species, and numerous butterflies.

After lunch and relaxation, your driver guide transfers you to the canopy walk start point at the Uwinka tourist reception center.

This 2-hour memorable walk takes you on a tour walking 50m above the ground for 200meters on a suspended bridge within a tropical forest. In the evening, you return to your lodging facility where you spend the night.

Day 6: Drive to Volcanoes National Park

In the morning you have a relaxed breakfast then be driven past the beautiful countryside of the land of a thousand hills to Volcanoes National Park.

Lying in northwestern Rwanda bordering Virunga National Park in Congo and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda, this is the only gorilla home in Rwanda.

Arriving in the evening you check-in, have dinner and spend the night at a booked accommodation close to Volcanoes National Park.

Day 7: Golden Monkey Trekking & Visit The Dian Fossey Conservation Center

In the morning, you have an early morning breakfast then your driver guide transfers you to Volcanoes National Park for golden monkey trekking.

Golden monkeys are an amazing monkey species with a beautiful brownish coating in East Africa only found within the Virunga massif.

You spend about 4 hours on the trek within the jungle then return. In the evening, you pay a visit to the Dian Fossey conservation center that was formed after Dian Fossey an American primatologist who dedicated her life to conserving mountain Gorillas an effort that of recent has shown great results with the increase in gorilla numbers.

After the hike to the conservation center and learning about mountain gorillas, you return to your lodging facility where you spend the night.

Day 8: Drive to Lake Bunyonyi

In the morning, you have a relaxed breakfast then after embark on a drive to Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda. You are driven for about 110km on 3h 30min past the beautiful Virunga backdrop, you arrive at Africa’s deepest lake where you spend the night.

Day 9: Lake Bunyonyi Tour & Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You have breakfast then take a boat cruise to the islands of Lake Bunyonyi-Africa’s deepest lake. On a visit to the historical punishment island at sunrise, you have amazing beautiful views of the Kigezi highlands and sight several birds of which the lake derives its name which locally is translated to as a place of many little birds.

After this amazing refreshment, you then embark on a drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park 84km away on a 3 hours drive.

Arriving in the afternoon, you then check-in, have dinner, and relax at a lodging facility close to the park.

Day 10: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After early morning breakfast, you are driven to a specific gorilla tracking sector of Bwindi impenetrable national park.

Anticipate being at the park headquarters by 8:00 am for a Uganda gorilla trekking safari experience starting with a briefing from the park rangers which lasts about 30 minutes before you, the park ranger, and 7 other Uganda gorilla trekkers get into the jungle for a 2-8hours trek.

Day 12: Morning Game Drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park & A Boat Cruise on Kazinga Channel

At your accommodation facility close to Queen Elizabeth national park, you have early breakfast, then be driven to the Savannah plains for a morning game drive.

Sitting in your 4×4 safari vehicle, you go on a drive through the park for about 2-4hours as you sight several wildlife species inclusive of which are lions, zebras, waterbucks, and many more.

After the game drive, you have lunch then embark on a boat cruise along the 45km long Kazinga channel in the afternoon at about 2:00 pm.

The drive takes you on a road trip out of Queen Elizabeth Park in the beautiful terraced hills of Kigezi. Taking about 4-5 hours, you arrive in the afternoon for your check-in, dinner, and spend the night at a booked accommodation in Lake Mburo National Park. In the evening. You can opt to go for a night game drive in search of the nocturnal wild animals or have an evening nature walk at sunset.

Day 14: Morning Game Drive & An Evening Boat Cruise in Lake Mburo National Park

Early morning, you embark on a morning game drive at Lake Mburo National Park.

In a park popularly known as the host to the whispers of the wild, here you sight several species especially the Zebra’s, Knob’s, antelopes, several bird species, and with luck the Red Throated Bee Eater that is endemic to the park.

After about 2-4 hours game drive at Lake Mburo park, you relax then after go for an evening boat cruise on Lake Mburo in search of the wild animals that reside in the waters of this place including crocodiles and hippopotamuses alongside water loving bird species. Day 15: Drive to Entebbe International Airport For Departure.
