Rwanda Undertakes the Star Grading of Hotels – Rwanda Safari News

The destination Rwanda apparently boasts of three (3) five star along with seven (7) four star hotels up from the two and four hotels that were graded in 2012.  This index is based on the recent classification by the Rwanda Development Board.

The Rwanda Development Board is noted to have undertaken the grading and licensing in the areas of accommodation, tour operators, restaurants and tour guides all which are at the centre of serving the Rwanda Safari tour undertakers.

The five star properties that were accredited by the recent grading include the Radisson Blu Hotel, Kigali Marriot Hotel and Kigali Serena Hotel. These are well set to serve the top notch world travellers on holiday safari in Rwanda.

The four star properties include Hotel des Mille Collines, Hotel Golden Tulip La Palisse, Ubumwe Grande Hotel, Silverback Lodge and Lake Kivu Serena Resort.

The three star ranking was received by Nineteen (19) hotels while a count of eighteen (18) hotels fell into the two (2) star ranking. All these serve diverse travellers on vacation safaris in Rwanda.

The star grading exercise is normally undertaken in line with the 2014 tourist law which was gazetted and passed in Oct 2016 by the cabinet.

The motive is to enhance quality at hotels since the review takes place after two years. It is not a surprise for a hotel to lose a star when fresh grading occurs.

For example Manor Hotel was a four star in the previous ranking but it has dropped to three star in the new grading.

The inspection was conducted by a team of experts and the constructive feedback assists the respective facilities to know the respective areas for improvement including specialised training.

The move also puts Rwanda in line with the East African community requirements in a bit to promote the region as a common destination attracting world travellers to take up East Africa safari tours.
