1 Day Gorilla Rwanda Safari – Detailed Itinerary
Your tour driver guide shall pick you up from your place of stay in Kigali at around 5 am. He will take you on a very scenic 2-3 hour drive northwest to Volcanoes National Park in Virunga Mountains.
The impressive sights of the beautiful, terraced hillsides of Rwanda will accompany you as you connect from the dark to dawn.
You’ll see the local people embarking on their daily routine including their farmlands and crop gardens.
On arrival, you will connect to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a gorilla trekking briefing at 7 am. At 8 am, you will begin your gorilla trekking adventure. The trek can take anything between 30 minutes and 7 hours to reach the mountain gorillas.
Although you should be prepared for muddy, humid, and perhaps challenging conditions, gorilla trekking through the mountain rain forest is possible for all healthy and reasonably fit trekkers.
Your expert local guides will lead you to one of the 10 habituated gorilla families in volcanoes and you’ll be able to spend one full hour observing and photographing these incredible creatures as they feed, forage, play or interact in their natural habitat. It’s a humbling experience to sit amongst our ‘cousins’.
Although the gorillas will be the highlight, you will have an opportunity to encounter the endemic Golden monkeys, as well as a range of birdlife and other forest dwellers, not to mention the beauty of the park itself.
