You’ll start your two to three hour journey through Rwanda’s lovely, terraced slopes and into the magnificent Virunga Mountains, home of Volcanoes National Park, after packing your belongings into the car. About 300 of the 1063 mountain gorillas who are still living in the wild are protected in this breathtaking 160 km2 park.

Additionally, from 1966 until her death in 1985, Dian Fossey devoted eighteen years of her life to researching and safeguarding these critically endangered gorillas. The well-known Hollywood film “Gorillas in the Mist” did a fantastic job of illustrating her narrative.

Your lodging will be close to the park’s administrative center. You unwind tonight and get ready for tomorrow’s incredible gorilla adventure.

Start your amazing journey at 8 am with a knowledgeable guide as you venture through forests of volcanoes deep into the bush in quest of the endangered mountain gorillas.

You should be ready for a challenge because gorilla trekking in Rwanda can take anything from one to seven hours and is rather exhausting. It will all be worthwhile, though, if you happen to spot these kind, massive, human-like creatures with which we share 98% of our DNA. You have one hour to spend with the gorillas, and Rwandan officials are closely guarding this natural gem.

Come back to the lodge to unwind and have a delectable late lunch. Enjoy a lovely stroll to the volcanic twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo in the evening. As you stroll through towns and farmlands, engage with locals. After taking in the breathtaking views of the lakes, head back to the resort for dinner and the night.

Following the 8 a.m. briefing, go early in the morning to pursue a troop of golden monkeys, often known as the “little primates” of the Virunga Mountains.

Living in groups of up to 100 individuals on the lower slopes of the forest, these uncommon and endangered species are easier to walk (1-3 hours). They are incredibly vibrant and captivating to observe, as they bound through the bamboo above your head! You can watch their endearing antics for up to an hour.

Head back to the lodge for lunch and leisure. Explore the ancient Musanze Cave in the afternoon. The lava flow from the Sabyinyo and Bisoke volcanoes constructed the cave 65 million years ago. The caves’ interior spans two kilometers and has 31 entrances. Go to bed for a rest, dinner, and the night.
