Day 1: Arrive At Kigali International Airport & Transfer To Nyungwe National Park.
Your 3 days Chimpanzee tracking safari in Rwanda Nyungwe Forest National Park starts as soon as you arrive at Kigali International Airport. You’ll be welcomed courteously by the guide giving you a briefing about Rwanda and the safari in particular. From there, set off for a 5-6 hour drive southwest to Nyungwe.
You drive through rolling hills and beautiful scenery, before arriving in Nyungwe National Park in the evening for relaxation, dinner, and overnight. Nyungwe is one of the few places in the world where you can look into the wonders and secrets of a rainforest, whilst barely disrupting the natural flow of life within it.
The park is home to the largest Afro-montane forest in East and Central Africa and one of the most ancient forests, dating back to before the last Ice Age.
As one of Africa’s oldest rainforests, Nyungwe also serves as an untamed habitat for over 500 chimps, as well as other species of primates. Dedicated bird-watchers may never wish to leave with almost 300 species to be discovered. Enveloped in a myriad of wild orchids, trees, and ferns, Nyungwe is also a botanist’s paradise.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk in Nyungwe Forest
Your day two of the 3 days Chimpanzee tracking safari in Rwanda begins with an early breakfast. Then, transfer to the park’s visitor center at 5 am. Meet with local park ranger guide for briefing about chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing, follow your ranger guide into the forest in search of the man’s closest relative. And you can enjoy looking for other primates, birds, butterflies, and animals along the way
Chimp trekking takes 2-5 hours. Once you find chimps, spend one hour watching them as they munch fruit, swing in trees, socialize, patrol, mating, and make hooting calls – an unforgettable experience that you will treasure forever. You are free to take as many photos as you wish! Retreat from the activity for relaxation and lunch.

Day 3: Travel Back To Kigali. Visit King’s Palace & Ethnographic Museum En route
The final day of your 3 days Chimpanzee tracking safari in Rwanda Nyungwe Forest National Park starts with breakfast at 7 am. You then embark on a 6-hour drive back to Kigali. Pass through rolling hills and beautiful scenery. Stop in the town of Butare, Rwanda’s second-largest city and the former capital to tour the detailed Ethnographic Museum for a look at the socio-cultural history of Rwanda
Continue from the Museum to Nyanza to explore the reconstruction of a traditional king’s palace, the thatch homes that were the traditional seat of Rwanda’s kingdom. Learn about the evolution of farming and building through the centuries, and then venture into the grounds to meet the long-horned cows, known as Inyambo.
They are beautiful to look at, with a stately elegance you don’t generally expect from cows until you learn they are part of the royal heritage, used in many important ceremonies. Find out about the breeding techniques and listen to the Amahamba songs the shepherds sing as part of the grooming process. Then, wander the halls of the simple, modern home of the country’s last king.
After the palace tour, enjoy a delicious lunch and embark on the transfer to Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon, refresh and check in for your night return flight home.
