3 Days Chimpanzee Safari Uganda Kibale – Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Drive to Fort Portal Area, Visit The Amabere ga’ Nyinamwiru Caves, Hike the Fort Portal Crater Lake Area and Then Transfer to Kibale National Park.
Following your breakfast at your place of stay in Kampala, you will embark on the transfer to Fort Portal 300km about a 4 – 5 hours’ drive from Kampala.
The drive takes you through the impressive landscapes of Mpigi, Mityana, Mubende, Kyegegwa and Kabarole including extensive tea estates at Mpanga and eventually Fort Portal town.
In fort portal, you will have lunch after which you will proceed to Amabere ga’ Nnyinamwiru caves exploring the ancient Chwezi heritage which is the breast like features that geologically stalagmites and stalactites to be the breasts of Nnyinamwiru the daughter of Bukuku a self-enthroned king of the Chwezi empire following the disappearance of Ishaza.
Nnyinamwiru cut off her breasts in protest of her father refusing to breastfeed her son Ndahura who was of the right royal descent and was meant to take the throne.
After his heritage tour, you proceed to hike the Fort Portal Crater lake field which is surrounded by a series of crater lakes with a steep conical hill named Kyeganywa that offers you impressive vows of the area and the distant Rwenzori Mountain.
Retire from the activity and transfer to Kibale National Park 26km from Fort Portal for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Do Morning Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest & Afternoon Bigodi Wetland Walk
Following your breakfast at the lodge, gather at the Kanyanchu Tourism Center at 8 am for a briefing.
The park staff will handle this session and talk about the chimpanzee trekking conduct after which you head to the forest in search of our closest cousins.
The hike through the jungle with sights of birds, impressive flora and other primate species like Black and white colobus monkeys and eventual encounter with the chimpanzees as they roll themselves in their natural habitat gathering fruit, socializing and making pant hooting calls combine to make your chimp tracking experience memorable.
The Chimpanzee trekking tracking tends to last 2 – 5 hours and this includes one hour of direct encounter with them.
You will retreat to the starting point for short relaxation and take your lunch. After this, you will drive to the neighbouring Bigodi wetland for an afternoon walk.
The Bigodi wetland walk allows you to have an encounter with nature and the people. The swamp has counts of birds including the Great Blue Turaco, swamp animals like Sitatunga antelope and the touch of the community where you visit the traditional healer makes it more interactive.
Retreat from this as an activity and return to the lodge for relaxation dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Kampala & visit the Nakayima tree en route.
After a relaxed breakfast, embark on the drive back to Kampala. En route in Mubende, you make a stop to visit the Nakayima heritage tree which is noted to be over 200 years dating back to the Chwezi era.
The locals attach a lot of cultural significance to it and it is a place of traditional worship. Continue on the drive arriving in Kampala in the afternoon.
